  1. WinJPEG v.2.2 is a shareware image viewer with image processing and
  2. conversion capabilities for Microsoft Windows 3.x.  It has the following
  3. features:

  5. - display JPEG, TIFF, Targa, GIF, PCX, or Windows BMP images
  6. - export an image to JPEG, TIFF, Targa, GIF, PCX, Windows BMP, or OS/2 BMP
  7. - display of JPEG images with 1-pass/2-pass quantization and
  8.   Floyd-Steinberg dithering
  9. - display an image with its full palette
  10. - color balance: red, green, and blue adjustment
  11. - hue, saturation, and brightness adjustment
  12. - image rotation, vertical or horizontal flip, image resizing, and image
  13.   cropping
  14. - batch file compression of GIF, TIFF, or TARGA files to JPEG File
  15.   Interchange Format (JFIF) with optional smoothing
  16. - slideshow: display selected files sequentially with a cycle option
  17. - copy a portion of or the entire image  to the clipboard, paste an
  18.   image from the clipboard
  19. - support for Windows 3.1 features like drag-drop and common dialogs
  20. - support for file name extension association and starting a slideshow
  21.   from the command line

  23. There are two versions of WinJPEG: a 386 version for 386's or better and
  24. a 286 one for 286's or better.  The shareware version is a fully
  25. functional 286 version. The 386 version can be obtained by registering
  26. WinJPEG.

  42. DISTRIBUTION CONDITIONS
  43. You are free to distribute this shareware version of WinJPEG as long as the
  44. following conditions are met:
  45.   1) The distributed archive must contain ONLY the files listed above.
  46.   2) The contents of this archive are NOT MODIFIED in any way.
  47.   3) This version is not to be sold.  However, a reasonable disk copying fee
  48.      is permitted.
  49.   4) This version is not to be bundled with a commercially sold package
  50.      without permission from the authors.

  53. INSTALLATION NOTES
  54. If you associate a file extension with WinJPEG, you can double click on
  55. a file with that extension in File Manager and WinJPEG will
  56. automatically display that file.  There are two ways to associate an
  57. extension with WinJPEG.  The easiest way is to run File Manager, to
  58. click on a file with the desired extension, and to select the Associate
  59. command from the File Menu.  Then type "winjpeg.exe" with the
  60. appropriate path (e.g. c:\winjpeg\winjpeg.exe).  The other way is to
  61. modify the Extensions section of the "win.ini" file in your Windows
  62. directory.  Your "win.ini" may look like this after you modify it:

  73. Note that you don't have to use the suggested extensions (e.g. you can use
  74. .jpe instead of .jpg); WinJPEG will automatically detect the file format.

  76. If you are using Windows 3.0, you must copy "commdlg.dll" and
  77. "shell.dll" to your Windows system directory(e.g. C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM).

  79. If WinJPEG GPF's, we recommend that you restart Windows before
  80. running WinJPEG again.

  83. HOW TO REGISTER
  84. If you use WinJPEG for more than 14 days, you are expected to register
  85. WinJPEG.  When you register, you will receive the latest 286 and 386
  86. versions of WinJPEG, a user manual, and a collection of JPEG images (we
  87. will put as many as we can fit on 2 720k 3 1/2" floppies, on 1 1.44M 
  88. 3 1/2" floppy, or on 4 360k 5 1/4" floppies).  Also, the registered
  89. version does not have the reminder-to-register screen at the start.

  91. The registration fee is only $20.  MA residents, add 5% sales tax to the
  92. registration fee.  US residents, add $3 for shipping and handling;
  93. non-US residents, add $8 for shipping and handling.  If you want
  94. WinJPEG e-mailed to your account instead of having it physically mailed
  95. to you, there is no extra shipping charge.

  97. Registered users of WinJPEG can purchase the latest version for $5. 
  98. Shipping fees described above apply to these updates as well.  Updates
  99. are available when you see a new shareware version.

  101. For e-mail registrations, you need to use a program called "uudecode" to
  102. decode the uuencoded file that we e-mail to you.  For your information,
  103. a uuencoded file is a binary file that is converted to text by a program
  104. called "uuencode".  If your mail system rejects large messages, we will
  105. split the uuencoded file into smaller parts before mailing the parts to
  106. you, and you will need to edit the messages with a text editor before
  107. you can decode them.  Compuserve, for example, does not permit large
  108. e-mail messages.  Also, the uuencoded file is rather large; it is
  109. greater than 500k for WinJPEG v.2.2.  Compuserve users may find it less
  110. expensive to receive WinJPEG via U.S. Mail.

  112. Registrations with the incorrect fee or with non-US currency will be
  113. returned.
